Sam started kindergarten without the ability to rhyme. This didn’t concern me much. I don’t think little Will could rhyme in kindergarten either, but this was raised as a concern, as a fundamental kindergarten skill, and so we’ve been working in it.
Sam still asks things like, “does got rhyme with go?” Then I remind him that it’s not the beginning sound or letters, but the ending sound that makes two words rhyme. And baby he’s getting it!
Like the other day he was looking at the mantel pictured above and asked, “Does joy rhyme with boy?”
I cannot tell you how much I adore the sheepish but satisfied grin he flashes when he knows he is making progress.
Yes, Sam. Joy rhymes with boy. You are my joy boy. And please don’t rush this rhyming, this growing up, this figuring out. Simple joys of little boys, that’s what we are about.
May I rejoice in and give thanks for every darling moment (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
